As camp as "it ain't half hot mum" with less entertainment

Re: S A S Rogue Troopers
I think they are doing some of the characters a bit of a disservice....that Steven Knight has them all as nutcases to link it in with Peaky Blinders theme he had going. The only confirmed nutter I thought was Paddy Mane no? Who was a bit of a singular distant character at the best of times and avoided by many of the rest?

Re: S A S Rogue Troopers
Normally avoid the beeb as it is only a matter of time before an inverted stereo type pops up or someone turns out to be a shirt lifter or transexual..

But gave this a go thinking it would be hard for them to shoehorn woke characters into it. But it was still shit and gave up half way through the first episode. Dialogue was cringe and the characters smug and annoying.

Sidey... only when pissed... in which case hed go down the docks and fight everyone... sober was ok apparently.

Awesome portrayl of Stirling as well... going round calling everyone a cunt... so everyone that knew him he hated cursing and swearing... more fabricated bollocks by the Beeb

Re: S A S Rogue Troopers
I think it’s that Steven Knight feller copying his Peaky Blinders format onto the SAS Soldy….it’s a shame….as it’s not as if the real story is in the need for the caveman antics.

The main characters were highly intelligent men looking to use it to outwit a superior army, doubt there was time for all the laddish shit. I’m sure that bloke who was driving them about the dessert was in total awe of them? Not just another soldier who believed his own hype….no time for that shit surely?

Re: S A S Rogue Troopers
The idea behind the SAS is fully explained in the show and, to a certain extent, played out. That is to be less hierarchical and work outside of the top down structures of Army/Airforce planning and control.
However, it gets lost in all the “entertainment” elements of the show.

In one Sidey... anyone that has read the book that has led to the series will tell you although some stuff covered there is plenty they have left out.... plenty of stuff far more interesting and heroic than a fabricated Algerian WOMAN spy cluttering up the screen and an ongoing saga of was Paddy Mayne maybe a shirtlifter or not... like I said before if HBO had got their hands on this do you think they would have put this cluster fuck together... of course not... these heroes deserved better than this.

I'm planning to watch the final episode this weekend if I have the time.

I'm hoping there are another two women of colour spies, preferably lesbians, more gay and trans soldiers and preferably a lecture from an EDI specialist. Mainly because it would liven up this thread.

I'll spoil it for you. The SAS end up having a bum fight with a troop of gay Italians while the Krauts have a wank.

Shooting unarmed surrenderimng soldiers is not to be proud of. Had they been Germans we'd want them on trial for war crimes. Just saying.

However wars are dirty and we did what we needed to do.Every piot had the potential sink a ship with god knoes how many on board and the food to keep people Malta alive.

The horror....

Sold, HBO would have done a fantastic job on it, I remember being 'educated' so many times in the Band of Brothers series.....a particularly good moment was the Brecourt Manor Assault, I think it was still used at West Point as a training exercise at the time BoB was out?

Just wait until Masters of the Air comes out.

It'll piss all over anything the shitty BBC would ever do.

Re: S A S Rogue Troopers
Been to Normandy several times on tours and it always brings out loads of emotions, sadness at the loss of lives, particularly when you visit the American war graves, the bravery of the troops on landing and the sheer ingenuity of building the Mulberry harbours at Arromanches, But what really sticks out for me is how the fuck did they get those gliders down at Pegasus Bridge, absolutely unbelievable!

There's really no excuse for anyone who claims to have any awareness of modern history, respect for the fallen or empathy towards the horror of war not to have made the Normandy trip.

NJ… Yeah Pegasus Bridge is incredible… only when you see it with your own eyes the flying those glider pilots did in the pitch black… quite incredible.

Cemeteries in Normandy were incredibly moving… the one that proper got me was the British one at Bayeux. It was a simple stone with Royal tank Regiment badge on it and on it was written `Here lies a tank crew’
